Relationships...Who Needs Em?

It's time to talk about relationships, and not just romantic ones. Did you know business relationships are just as important to your life in comparison to the personal relationships you have? They are necessary. Anthony J. De'Angelo said a very simple, yet thought provoking quote on relationships: "Treasure your relationships, not your possessions." Why is it that we have grown to the place of valuing material possessions and success over our relationships? Everything is focused on "self" these days, and while I admire the notion of self love and self care, we aren't in the world by ourselves.

The fact of the matter is, YOU NEED PEOPLE! There is nothing on this earth that you can truly gain without the help of someone else. If we knew everything, we wouldn't need to go to school, work, church, and more.

Let's start investing into our relationships more effectively. How can you do this? I'm glad you asked.

1. Communication - Become well versed in communication. While we shouldn't feel entitled to people, we do need to communicate our desires for the relationship. ESPECIALLY in business relationships. How will you achieve your goals if you aren't forthcoming with your expectations for people?

2. Transparency - Realize where you are, and you need to be okay with expressing this to those who you are in relationship with. You never know how you may be able to connect with someone based on where you currently are.

3. Boundaries - This is a tough one, but it's necessary. Can you mix business and pleasure? Sure. Is it wise? Depends on where you are. You have to establish clear boundaries for your relationships so that both sides are equally respected.

Of course there are many more that you can utilize, but these are the three that I felt led to focus on.

Overall, God wants you to do life well with others. I'll end with a scripture.

Hebrews 12:14 says, "Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord." Let's get back to doing relationships well. It's possible!

So who needs relationships? YOU!
