Heart Check

So last week we dealt with our minds and our thoughts. Today, we will focus on our hearts.

I can give you TONS of scriptures about the heart, and I will share a few of them with you but I want you to explore a couple questions first. What all do you know about your heart? What does God think about MY heart?

Let's ponder on these questions. We use and abuse our hearts more than we would like to admit. Proverbs 4:23 is thrown around loosely these days with the "guard your heart" portion, but we tend to leave out the rest of the verse. Let's look at what The Message Bible says: "Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts."

Fam.... *takes a deep breath* Here we go.

We have to keep vigilant watch because that's where life starts. If you aren't properly guarding your heart you will allow yourself to receive anything that comes your way, you will start to externalize what's internal.

My dad used to tell me this phrase all the time as a kid. He would say, "garbage in, garbage out." I thought he was just being mean, trying to keep me from watching MTV and BET (LOL). But as I got older, I learned that he was absolutely right. The more I listened to certain music, the more I desired what the music talked about. (Thanks Dad, I never stop learning LOL) But aside from music, this applies to all areas of our lives.

As far as your business is concerned, this is definitely applicable. If you are only listening to advice from people who haven't created anything, do you truly believe you'll be motivated to birth a business? If you are around people who are always looking for a quick dollar, do you believe that you will want to strategically build a legacy? Probably not.

So let's check our hearts and what we allow into the heart chambers! Let's also begin to acknowledge when we know we have work to do on our hearts. Are you allowing past mistakes and issues to keep your closed off and skeptical of others? Do you have a wall up against your heart because you are really hurting, but just don't know how to express it? All of these are places we've probably all been.

My mission today is to remind you of God's heart towards you. He loves you, He proved this over 2,000 years ago when He sent his son to die for your sins (John 3:16). He also recognizes that you've been through many things, and He knows that some of them weren't your fault BUT he doesn't want your heart hardened. He gave the children of Israel hearts of flesh vs hearts of stone, and he can do the same for you. (Ezekiel 36:26) I pray that the restoring power of God falls fresh on your heart as you read this blog!

Don't you know that God's heart is overjoyed when His sons and daughter go and create things? God is more than excited when His children start to produce in the world with the talents and expertise he has given them! Continue to open your heart to him and let him remove the things that you've opened your heart to due to simply existing in this wretched world. When you meditate on the Word of God, it begins to wash away all of the things that you've let in knowingly and unknowingly. Continue to keep your heart in check! You can do this!

Next week, we will focus on relationships! Some of us have dropped the ball on our blessings due to the way we handle our relationships and I truly believe that God is going to cause us to do relationships better in this next season! Be blessed.
